Packing For Holidays: 15 Helpful Tips

Hello, lovelies!

How are you doing? Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Summer’s upon us and with it comes the holidays (weeeee!), so I thought it would be appropriate to do a post with a few tips on how to properly pack your bags.

I’ve struggled with packing ever since I can remember because I always want to take everything with me 😛 Hopefully you are too and you find this post helpful!

For clothes and shoes:

Make a packing list and take it with you on your journey so that, when it’s time for you  to return, you can make sure you have everything.

Check how the weather’s going to be like at your destination. This way, you can avoid taking all the wrong clothes and having to buy new ones at your destination (not that is much of a problem, though 😉 ).

♥ When packing your bag, roll your clothes instead of folding them: space-wise it’s much more efficient!

All The Times You'll Feel Burnt Out While Traveling

Put your shoes at the bottom of the bag (in another bag, of course, so that you don’t get your bag or clothes dirty). This way, they’re not pushing down on your clothes, causing them to crease.

♥ If you have trainers or boots, you can always fill them with socks so that you’re making use of the room inside them.

Keep a canvas bag in your suitcase so that you can fill it with laundry or dirty shoes.

For toiletry and cosmetics:

Add a cotton pad to your compact powders (actually put it in, between the actual powder and the lid), so that you don’t arrive with your compact powder in a million pieces.

♥ You can also take a small square of clean-film and put it in your liquid products (between the bottle and the lid). This way, they’re less likely to spill everywhere.

Other useful tips:

♥ Try to separate your things. If you have one of those suitcases that have two rooms on each side, have one of them with clothes and shoes, the other with toiletry and electrical stuff. (If your suitcase doesn’t have two separate rooms, you can always make a “wall” out of a rolled bag.)

♥ If there’s anything you know you’ll need as soon as you get to your destination, keep that in hand, on top of everything else.

♥ Speaking from experience, always take an extra pair of clean underwear and your toothbrush and toothpaste in your handbag, since your bag can get mislaid and end up God knows where!

Tips for not over-packing:

♥ Try to plan your outfits in advance.

♥ There’s the 5 4 3 2 1 method (which is more for Summer), that tells you to take:

♥ 5 tops (includes jackets)

♥ 4 bottoms

♥ 3 dresses + shoes

♥ 2 swimsuits + bags

♥ 1 hat + watch + pair of sunglasses

♥ Also, some people say to take 3 tops to every bottom.

♥ Depending on what you’re doing at your destination, my advise is to take less bags and shoes than you’re thinking, because you always end up not using everything. Three pairs of shoes is always a nice idea: a pair of trainers,  another pair of flats and a pair of heels.

I don’t own any of the pictures in this post.

Happy packing, everyone! 🙂

Alice ♥

    1. I think it’s great for when it’s a short period away. If you’re staying for more than a week, then I’d need to pack more 😂 sorry for the late answer. Xx
